Transrotor Bellini – Highly Commended

Transrotor Bellini TMD/TRA 9/Figaro – Highly Commended Turntable

We’re pleased to share that the Transrotor Bellini TMD / TRA 9 / Figaro has received a Highly Commended award in the Turntable category, recognising it as one of the standout record players in its class.

Positioned in the upper middle of Transrotor’s extensive range, the Bellini reflects the brand’s long-standing commitment to creating the ideal platform for high-quality tonearms and cartridges. Its design centres on mass, stability and isolation. A substantial aluminium platter delivers speed consistency and vibration damping, while the slab-chassis plinth — crafted primarily from thick acrylic — carefully distributes weight for structural control.

A key innovation is Transrotor’s TMD belt-drive decoupling system, featuring a two-part subplatter mounted on the bearing shaft. Combined with the flexibility of the polymer belt and a subtle magnetic ‘float’ between the two sections, the system significantly reduces motor-induced vibration. The freestanding motor unit, powered by a separate supply and speed controller, further enhances isolation.

The package is completed by Transrotor’s own TRA9 gimballed tonearm, incorporating hybrid steel and ceramic bearings for low friction and precise tracking, along with a dual-tube aluminium armwand designed to counteract unwanted resonance. The included Figaro cartridge, manufactured by Goldring to Transrotor’s specification, features a magnesium body for added rigidity and control.

In listening tests, the Bellini impressed with a sound described as “prominent, confident, secure, and stable,” while avoiding the heaviness sometimes associated with high-mass designs. Its responsiveness to setup adjustments underlined its neutrality as a platform — fulfilling Transrotor’s design goal.

A well-deserved recognition for a beautifully engineered turntable.
